Grace Period

Grace Period is a blog from the heart of a Christian. I enjoy sharing my faith, my hopes, my dreams - and especially my opinions! Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's sad. Hopefully it's always thought-provoking.

An Old Promise for a New Year

As we stand in the threshold looking ahead at a new year with all of its uncertainties, I thought I would remind you of something that is sure to never change. Our Lord promised that He would be with us “even unto the end of the world.” What a comforting thought!

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen (Matthew 28:18-20).

If you will “go” for Jesus in 2015, you have this promise from the Savior that He will always be with you. This has been a very dear promise proven to the saints down through the ages. These final words from our Savior to His saints have offered light in the midst of darkness, comfort in midst of affliction, hope in midst of despair and peace in the midst of strife.

Note the number of promises derived from this one simple statement of our Lord:

  • A Promise of Affection
  • A Promise of Affiliation
  • A Promise of Blessing
  • A Promise of Benevolence
  • A Promise of Comfort
  • A Promise of Companionship
  • A Promise of Devotion
  • A Promise of Divinity
  • A Promise of Empathy
  • A Promise of Eternity
  • A Promise of Faithfulness
  • A Promise of Friendship
  • A Promise of Grace
  • A Promise of Glory
  • A Promise of Help
  • A Promise of Hope
  • A Promise of Intimacy
  • A Promise of Infinity
  • A Promise of Joy
  • A Promise of Jesus
  • A Promise of Kindness
  • A Promise of Keeping
  • A Promise of Life
  • A Promise of Loyalty
  • A Promise of Obstacles
  • A Promise of Overcoming
  • A Promise of Pathways
  • A Promise of Peace
  • A Promise of Responsibility
  • A Promise of Rejoicing
  • A Promise of Sustenance
  • A Promise of Shelter
  • A Promise of Trial
  • A Promise of Triumph
  • A Promise of Valleys
  • A Promise of Victory
  • A Promise of Work
  • A Promise of Worth

If this many promises come from one single utterance of our Lord, imagine the wealth of promises given to us through the whole of inspired Scripture! These are “exceeding great and precious promises” because, as the writer of Hebrews declares in Hebrews 10:23b, “He is faithful that promised.”

Let us face this unsure year with a sure faith in the promises of our Lord!
